Martensitic Stainless Steel

Martensitic Stainless Steel

Martensitic-Stainless-Steel-1

Martensitic stainless steel is known for its high strength, hardness, and moderate corrosion resistance, making it ideal for applications that require durability and wear resistance. This family of stainless steels is characterized by a microstructure that can be hardened through heat treatment, offering excellent mechanical performance in demanding environments. With chromium as the main alloying element and limited nickel content, martensitic grades provide an effective balance of toughness and corrosion resistance.

At Apar Alloys, we supply a wide range of martensitic stainless steel products that combine precision, consistency, and quality. Our materials are sourced from reputed mills and meet international standards, ensuring suitability for industries such as power generation, automotive, petrochemical, and engineering sectors. As a trusted supplier and stockist, we deliver products that meet your exact technical and operational requirements.

We offer a wide range of martensitic stainless steel grades, available in various standards ensuring international compatibility and reliable performance. Each grade is sourced from reputed global mills and stocked to meet diverse industrial specifications and project demands.

Characteristics of Martensitic Stainless Steel

  • High Hardness & Strength:Achieved through controlled heat treatment and tempering.
  • Moderate Corrosion Resistance:Performs well in mild environments, particularly when polished or passivated.
  • Excellent Wear & Abrasion Resistance:Suitable for components exposed to friction or impact.
  • Magnetic Nature:Retains a magnetic structure in all conditions.
  • Good Machinability:Easily machinable in the annealed condition, making fabrication efficient.
  • Heat Treatable:Can be hardened or tempered to achieve specific mechanical properties.

Why Apar Alloys?

Martensitic stainless steels derive their name from the martensite phase, a body-centered tetragonal (BCT) crystal structure formed when steel with sufficient carbon is rapidly cooled (quenched) from high temperatures. Containing 11.5% to 18% chromium and up to 1.2% carbon, these steels can be hardened through heat treatment, significantly increasing strength and hardness. Unlike austenitic grades, martensitic stainless steels are magnetic and less ductile, but they provide superior wear resistance and mechanical performance. This unique combination makes them suitable for cutlery, turbine blades, pump shafts, valves, and surgical instruments.
